Hi there,

I actually got a roadworthy on 2 of my minis at a place in Richmond.

Can't remember the name, but I think the address was 107 Green St. If you look in the yellow pages under roadworthy testers it will be there. The workshop was really sensible about all of the issues without being overly picky. On one mini, I got a roadworthy without any rectification work needed, and on the other I just had to do things like repair a torn seat, clean oil off the engine to check for leaks etc.

If you need a roadworthy place to issue a certificate so the car is safe, without being stupid about the minor things, I recommend this place.

Sorry to waffle on but I hope this helps!

Steve

Thats the problem right there......

A pommie car specialist would accept most of those things as factory standard, except the neon lights....

Thanks for posting the list. It will help some of us when we go to register our Mini's.

the neons are perfectly legal, as are the washer jet lights.
some of the things are really picky, like the roof lining.. I mean, who really cares???

anyhow.. as for lights... so long as your neons or led's are not red facing forward, or white facing backwards, and dont dazzle other drivers, they are perfectly legal.
oh, and dont change existing lights... no green parkers ;) but if you're adding them its fine.

I have a scan of the actual regulations at home if anyone wants to know more about this 8)

Just move north to NSW- my mate got his 1330 Deluxe passed with no roof lining, no door cards, no mats or carpets, etc.

I'll let you all know soon how we go with rego'ing the Honda disc braked Clubbie-

BTW it now outbrakes my S discs.. when both cold anyway. AND it stops straight now, something it has never done since we bought it. 8)

I belive that provided that noting on the car is a saftey risk to the driver/passengers or others & the car is as it was built acording to the complience plate (wich will be defined in said document) you should have no trouble regardles of which state U go for rego in. I'm not sure how a torn roofining would effect roadworthyness unless the lose end was obstucting vision. But if your car, like mine had a smog pump fitted when new to meet polution rules they could be within their rights to ask you to refit it. (not many working ones on mini's these days.) But I had my old clubie blue slipped last year & int passed OK but he found a few things I missed (missed a few thing I couldn't fix luckily like oil leaks). I belive there is even a spec for how often oil may drop from your car.
But basicly he said to me the rule of thumb they use for old cars is if it was fitted to them then it should work properly ,wipers, washers , seat belts. Some times its easier to remove something than to make it work."Not fitted to this model sir" heater demister is a prime example. Some people I know have had knock backs on this point.

Well hello there everyone, i put my mini in for its second roadwrothy attempt today, i was feeling quite positive that he'd pass with flying colours or maybe one or two little things wrong BUT then i got the phone call, ITS FAILED AGAIN. id be lying if i wasnt a little disheartend and god fogive me but i thought of giving up completly on the little guy. Now the list is much smaller than last time (thank god) but there is still a list, SO here is the updated list

1 Drivers seat sqab collapsed
2 Window seals on doors
3 pedal rubbers
4 horn doenst work
5 windscreen washer jets dont work
6 Windscreen demisters dont work
7 RH front park light not working
8 LH seat belt frayed (barely!!!!)
9 front shock absorbers
10 reaar shock absorbers
11 Front lower control arm bushes
12 Outer tierod end boots
13 Rear control arm front bushes

i know i can fix numbers 1 to 8 but do you think its possible to fix 9 to 13 myself or would i better off taking it to a mechanics?? also how much do you think it will cost for the parts to do the repairs (9 to 13)

thanks for your time, im now going to punch something soft but punch it really hard!!

fix 1-13 by moving to SA

the non-rwc and car checking state 8)

i dont know about 11-13 but 9-10 is better just to take to pedders or a shock absorber place and getting them done professionally. less hassle.

yep i agree, move to SA.

Over here you can drive a car with no interior, no working lights, no bumpers and bald tyres - and the cops wont look twice.... But put 17 inch rims on ya MAZDA and they'll take it off the road.... work that crap out!!!
