hello, a mate gave me something he bought off ebay the other day, its the centre part of the steering wheel. (clubman) but ive had a look at it and it looks to big its got the leyland symbol embossed into the centre, ill get a picture up later on. could this be from a different car leyland made? its NOS and is labelled bmc australia.

Could be for a P76. I think the Marina ones were the same as the Clubman.

It sounds like the centre out of a Marina steering wheel, there much larger than the mini type. They were also used in the P76 Targa Florio/Force 7 steering wheels. The std P76 wheel has the famous "boomerang" shaped steering wheel with "leyland" in the centre.

Because it has BMC on it would point to it being made before 71.

BMC was taken over by Leyland in 1968 but they kept the BMC name on some things till about 71.
I would doubt that any P76 or Marina bits would have BMC on them.

How about a Tasman?

I have a number of NOS P76 parts in BMC wrapping. The old wrapping was used well into P76 production, i guess to use up old stock.

Yes That is because a lot of parts where packed at the Parts and Acc division and they used the plastic wraping and boxes they had, it was not uncommon to have jaguar parts in leyland or BMC wraping or boxes aswell

I can't bear to throw out the original BMC/Leyland/Lockheed etc.. wrapping when I come across it...

This is a very complicated area, UNIPART Was the distributor for BMC rover Etc, and they purchased the rights to market a lot of the older parts if they had a market for them. At that point in time The Clubman was not as popular in the UK as they seem to be now so a lot of parts became No Longer Available {NLA}. If UNIPART ceased to have an interest in the parts then the tooling was handed over to another organisation called British Motor Heritage, They have since started to re make some of the parts for the Clubman, When BMW took over from my information all this became even more complicated as to who owned what, it was a little like they made an omelette then wanted the eggs back.
