I have found a round nose mini, but being fairly new to Minis, and my main info is coming from here and google.
The engine number is 9YATAH13987, the owner is saying he is confident that its a 1275, but on the Qld Mini website he is wrong, its a 998. Or could he be right???
Can anyone confirm what size motor its is, and besides engine numbers and stripping down and measuring bore and stroke is there any other way of finding out the engine size.
Cheers and thanks in advance.

Unless he has restamped the block with the 998 number, to get around the 4" of paperwork involved with telling DOT,RTA,Vic Roads that he has changed engines.

Which is illegal. So if that's the case, i'd steer clear.

You are correct and at no point did i state the legality of doing it, just making an observation of a similar incident that happened to me.

Yes no doubt it happens. More often that not it's to avoid having to put discs on.

Saves on insurance too if the car isn't 'modified'.

Take a pic, but otherwise I'd say it's a 998.

I've looked at 2 Minis in the last month that were both '1275s'. Both had smallbore heads, one had a 10 number (1100cc) and the other had no number. The former did have disc brakes and twin tanks but anyways, still misrepresented.

I havent seen the car in person as its 15hours drive, and is the only details of the engine given to me( from the block).
Reason im asking as i dont want to drive that distance than come back empty handed.

maybe you could say where it is at (area not specific location) and somebody here from that area can take a look at it for you

I'd be asking to make sure the engine number was taken from the block and not the ID plate.
