ok so i got my car registered the other day for the first time. it has a problem i drive it around the block and the guage goes up to hot i get out check the water plently of water and the water in the radiator is cold enough to put my finger in (warm but not real hot) i have nop air bubbles in radiator so no cracked head and i have no idea what it is i thought it may be the water pump so i put a new one in and still not working. still getting hot. can someone pleasea tell me whats wrong? i have tried a different guage and sender as well. |

could be a wiring issue.....what gauge do you have? electric or mechanical? If its electric is it wired in though the voltage regulator on the back of the speedo head? Also is it wired correctly? Have you tested the voltage regulator with a multi meter? does your fuel gauge operate correctly? |

electric guage, fuel guage does not read accurately full tank when empty, is wired through through the regualtor on back of speedo. could this regualator be haddit?...... but i pull off the hoses and there is no water flow...... shouldnt there be water coming out? its a late style radiator off a clubby so there is that metal pipe coming from bottom of radiator up to top.....this is the hose i pull off and there is no water coming out. |

it is possible......does the fuel gauge go to full when the tank is empty? the out put of the voltage regulator should be about 9 - 10 volts but if its pushing out more or not at all its stuffed. If you have a wiring diagram handy check your wiring against it and if its all ok and you have a spare known good voltage reg swap it over and check it. Have you changed from generator to alternator? May also mean you need to get the gauges re-calibrated to suit. |

fuel guage always reads full even if it is empty.....should there be water flowing out of pipes when you pull them off???? |

i have a late clubby radiator with the metal pipe coming from the bottom of the radiator to the top for a heater or whatnot. i pull the hose off that start the car up and there is no water flowing out from it also the hose off the drivers side of the head and no flow coes from there either. |

Yes this is not good!! when or have you replaced the water pump? If not this is your first job, then go from there. get a 'Hi Flow' type |

the wiring is dodgy - but the thermostat might be stuck shut as well |

i replaced the water pump this morning with a brand new one. have tested the theremostat and it opens and closes no worries. but it is just a standard pump not a hi flow. |

gotta be the wiring - it's not uncommon for the voltage regulator to crap itself, Wombat sells replacement ones for ~$20 that'll never go wrong. I bought one, but lost it ![]() |

sorry... missed that so you take off a heater hose with the engine running and no water comes out of it? try the same with your top radiator hose - undo the hose and start the engine, if nothing comes out, take it off and start the engine... you'll soon see if you've got water flowing have you had the radiator out? it could be completely blocked what I like to do is take the radiator out, clamp a high pressure garden hose nozzle into the inlet, and blast wather through, then clamp the garden hose into the outlet and do the same, then fill it with water and shake it like hell, then repeat until nothing yukky comes out I also do the same with the engine, take the thermostat out, then clamp your garden hose into the top rad hose, blast water till it comes out clean, then clamp the carden hose into the bottom rad hose, repeat, repeat, repeat until it's clean |
