I got to thinking this after the alloy radiator thread.
Are silicone hoses any better than normal ones in the real world (not bling world)?

Anyone have any experiences with their life and how well they take
the heat and pressure of the system?

I've never had anything to do with them before so I don't know.
:D

We only use silicone hoses on all our new trucks at Kenworth. they are very tough and last for 100's of thousands of k's. Well worth fitting if you can put up with the usual blue colour.

If they made them in black I'd think about it, but otherwise they look like rice try-hard..

Cut off a 3" piece of 1/2" silicon heater hose and use it as a by-pass hose between the water pump and the head. It will last forever and you'll never have to worry about it blowing :D .

Silicon hoses resist oil better, especially good for the bottom hose.

Yah but they are for a Rover Mini with MPI - what about a classic Mini with just top and bottom radiator hoses?

I went with a minispares kevlar reinforced hose instead and don't regret it. Beware of the quality of stuff from Hong Kong...

pfft - stick a plug in the head and in the water pump, then you don't even need to worry about lining the bugger up when you put the head on ;)

...and if you don't drill holes in the thermostat when this is done, you have NO water circulation in block or head until the thermostat opens...
Metros that had no bypass hose had a sandwich plate and bypass setup under the thermostat.

I've had a minispares kevlar hose before, it only lasted 5000 kms then I had to bin it.
