998 and 1098 rods are the same... it's the piston and cranks that make up the stroke dif  I'd vote go 1098 to give some extra torque 8)

Up to you, if you can source a 1098 crank cheaply the cost of a rebuild is the same, just buy pistons to suit. You'll get a more powerful motor.

bore it out to make it 1100 & make it twin cam :-)

---> Here`s one i prepared earlier,,, with single 1"&3/4 SU & distributor to run it so no need for massive costs of EFI computer & wiring & sensors & tuning etc costs

sorry the photo is crap :-(

:D Buy the 1100+ that was in my wifes car.......gearbox not included but can sort one out if needed for a small fee :) ....... 8)

really depends on what you want your engine to do, if its a daily driver, for motorsport, bit of both, etc, etc......

The shorter stroke on a 998 allows you to get more revvs, providing the head, cam and carbs will breath enough.

i vote work on other things first. if the engine is running sweet, just keep up preventative maintenance and sort out any other issues with the moke first so then you can spend as longggggg as you want on the engine (and as much money as you want to!)

Well its getting a nice flowed 202' head in a few weeks along with some extractors and a carb upgrade... so the air part isnt any real problem... was just thinkin about stroke or bore upgrade.... Im not after a balls out race car or anything motorsportish (its a moke ladies and gents!) so just a weekend smile maker or something like that....

I would go a 1100 with a twincam, or if you really want to get serious, a 1330 with a twincam. And for good measure, chuck a nice blower on it....

Ah, but if you are going to drive around without revving the tits off it all the time, a 1098 has heaps more torque all the way to 5000.
Even dead stock, you are looking at 10HP and 8lb/ft torque extra...

hey Matt , you just reminded me that that 202 head is still in the kero bath  I will have to fish it out and finish cleaning it if you still want it.

That's all good in theory but my 1152 has seen 7k for years and never missed a beat. How much higher do you want to go?

do other stuff first... a proper engine build will cost a fair bit more than you think. It all adds up, slowly but it still adds up.
