Post subject:  strange engine noise

On my way home from work today the engine started to make a strang noise.
It has suddenly devolped a loud squeeking noise which appeard to be coming from the radiator side top or rear of the engine. When l got home l removed the alternator and ran the motor to see if that was the problem. It wasnt the noise is still there. The only other moving part apart from the motor itself is the fuel pump. Could this be the problem or do you think it may be internal? Apart from this squeeking noise he motor is running ok and is not overheating at this stage.

When l removed the alternator to check for the noise and started the motor the water pump wasnt working as the fan belt wasnt connected. However the noise was still there therefore l dont think it is the water pump

Found the problem today. Turn out to be a worn rocker shaft at no3 rocker. Replaced it with spare rocker arm and shaft assembly l had . Loud sqeeking noise now gone.

"shaft at no3 rocker"

hehe
sorry i thought he did something just to no3 rocker
thought he was talking about the shaft that goes down into the block (pushrod?)

he means the shaft running along the top that holds all the rockers?
