Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Another dumb ass dealer who can't tell a donkey from an a$$ :evil:
Quote:
1991 Mini Cooper R50 Black 4 Speed Manual Hatchback

Although I do like the disclaimer at the bottom of the page
Quote:
Please confirm vehicle details with the seller prior to purchase.
Dealer Licence No. 2504656
Say you saw it on eBay!

Other than that it looks like an all right Rover. If your seriously interested call the dealer and confirm the details.....and tell them you want it with the hatch back :lol: .

I think it's dodgy as hell...

someone i know is flying up to look at it (didn't ask for any advice so i'm not about to give any negative)

- Says R50
- 1991 (is 1988 still the import limit?)
- Engine number looks like a NSW police number?
- No mention about engine size (they obviously can't work it out from the number)
- No mention about disc brakes

1991 is ok if it was a private import that was later sold to the dealer, but yeah a bit dodgy looking. You said their flying up (boy will their arms be tired), I hope their not disappointed with it :? .

That engine number is not a NSW Police number.
:wink:

I wouldn't think it too dodgy.

Many websites make you picjk a cars year and model from dropdown boxes and a rover mini doesn't always have the right categories available, so the dealers pick the default or closest match.

No mention of disc breaks? Well, most cars built after the 80s had them from standard, so I would consider that an easy thing to miss by a non-mini person.

88 might be the current legal import rule, but if the car was brought in 5 or so years ago then it is still legit and okay.

I wouldn't say to knock it till someone inspects it and finds fault.

all post '86 cars should have disk brakes

Mine is a 1990 and it's perfectly legal :) It was a personal import - probably the most likely scenario.

Looks OK, same seats & carpet as mine, original gearknob but new steering wheel!

I just used the legend on minimania's website and if I used it correctly, this is what the chassis/vin tells us about this car:

SAXXL2S1N20474074

SAX = built by MG/Rover
X = not significant
L = 998cc
2S = 2 door saloon/sedan
1 = Round Nose
N = HLE/Mayfair RHD
2 = Model Year (1984 onwards)
0 = Right hand Drive
474074 = Sequential Build Number

I'm not sure if I understand the model year bizzo. I can't say whether the website suggests that it's a 1984 or whether 2 simply applies to all 1984-1990 manufactured cars.

If its been here a while it could be a 1991, there was a few people bringing in SPi coopers a few years back till the rules changed , Henry Draper at Northen Mini Parts for one, till he sold the buisness, thats who i got the one i had from. :D
