Hi All

Looking at a Mini K this weekend (that happens to be in the For Sale section in ausmini). Want to know what things I should look out for with these specs below. Also with it bored from 1275cc to 1400cc, has it been bored too much or does it depend on the block type? How much of the engine block wall would be left and would it be a fragile thing to drive? Have been told I should make some queries before I look at it so I can get the details I need while Im there...

Any feedback = much appreciated.

Engine:
- 1275cc bored out to 1400cc
- Weber side draft carb
- Extractors
- Bigger cam
- New leads
- Cooper S disc brakes with Vacuum Booster
- K&N air filter (spare one also included)
- GT40 bosch coil pack

Who built the engine, what compression ratio is it, is it stroked, was it balanced or lightened, crack tested etc etc theirs so many things you need to find out. Even if it is an awesome built engine it only takes one faulty part for it to die.

Engine:
- 1275cc bored out to 1400cc get specifics, who was the machine shop, was it offset bored etc
- Weber side draft carb get specifics, who was the tuner, was it jetted properly, by who, on a rolling road or engine dyno?, what size chokes, aux chokes, is it 40mm or 45mm carb
- Extractors
- Bigger cam get specifics, what brand/manufacturer/regrinder, what timing was dialled in on assembly, what type of cam followers used, what specific cam is it
- New leads
- Cooper S disc brakes with Vacuum Booster
- K&N air filter (spare one also included)
- GT40 bosch coil pack

When was it build how many miles since, what type of driving have they used it for. If they have used it for competition, or track days get them to show times they acheived which will indicate the performance of the engine.

Pull the dipstick and look at the colour of the oil. If it is cleanish, then at least they have recently changed it, even if only for the sale.

and what Kenno said.

If they cannot answer the questions and show receipts for the engine work or parts, then you can only assume that it is a shagged out 1275 until proven otherwise.
