Some clubmans came with them. They just use the indicators. There is a switch on the back of the gearbox.

I have seen others that have a single light mounted either on the boot or under the rear bumper.

Later van lights had twin filament bulb holders in the top and the bottom.

So you just need to connect the wiring ;)

Externally they look the same :)

Cheers
Matt

PS I have some in the shed i think

I'm not sure about the real early mini's, but i thought they all had reverse lights, they are just never hooked up. So that when its in reverse both your rear indicators come on.

If the gearbox is a rod change there will be a switch in the side of the rod change unit and the remote boxes have a switch on the front of the gearbox. I'm not sure if all of the remote boxes had them though

Roundies-
Only Police Minis and later Mk2s had reversing lights in the blinkers. The bulb holders were twin filament not single, they used 21W/21W bulbs.
Clubbies-
All Clubbies had em, same setup.

I'm sure we could add reversing lights to early Mini rear blinkers (using single filament bulbs) by adding a diode in the lines.

It is quite easy to fit reversing lights to any Mini.

If it is a rod change the switch will be on the gearchange under the car.

You don't need to use a double filament globe holder, you can just hook the reversing light to the rear blinker and fit a diode to the blinker wire to stop the front blinkers from coming on with the reversing lights.

if i hook up both indicators they might think i'm turning both ways

anyways.. that dual bulb thing seems intresting.

so it just shows a yellow light or red?

On my 850 the reverse lights are on either side of the number plate and they work very well.

When I first got the car it had a small spot/flood light under the rear bumper aswell, (that's the only picture I have available now).
Image
Either one works well and if it's tucked up under the bumper it doesn't stand out too bad.

Post subject:  reversing lights

When it gets really dark, I use the brake lights as my reversing lights. Top of my shoe lightly on the brake and my heel on the accelerator...

But yeah, I have always wanted to fit extra bright reversing lights, but never found a visually appealling solution.

I can't remember, try your local auto shops and maybe even look at some LED bar set ups, they will fit under the rear bumper really well.
