Post subject: | Just bought a Moke!! - Engine number question? |
Just bought a Moke from a mate who has separated from his missus and it had to go. Running moke for $500. Needs quite a bit of TLC, but it can be my winter project (probably the next 10 winters!) ![]() The plate says it is a californian and the number matches the one stamped on the radiator shroud, although the vin isn't "not recorded" on the rego slip. I am intrigued by the engine number though. It doesn't match the rego (big surprise) and it begins with 10y, which I can't find on the net as being a mini engine. Anyone have any ideas? Will try and post some pics soon if anyone is interested. Cheers Rick |

1100 engine, most likely Morris 1100? What's the rest of the engine prefix (10YATAH for eg)? |

Post subject: | good for you! |
Running Moke for 500 sounds good, of course it needs TLC, that is half the fun, and don't be too detemined to make it a winter project, mine was supposed to be, and I'm still driving it 5 years later! still has rust, crap paint..... BTW Rick, when did we last get rain? Welcome to Moke fun! |

It's not the rain that bothers me but the cold. I live in the foothills and could have done with a beanie even this morning heading for work. But when I got down to the plain and the sun came over the hills, it was the best ![]() I'm a wimp I know ![]() |

Post subject: | hats! |
Hey Iknow about hats, how many have blown off! So in summer you get some aligator clips and a bit of shoe string (thin 'bungy' cord is better), put a clip on each end about 70 mm long is plenty, then clip the back of the hat to your shirt, hat may fly off but you won't loose so many! And when its cooler (and to stop the wind smashing your ear drums!), try these hats (no fashion statement though ![]() ![]() |

I haven't had a hat blow off in the Moke for years. I've developed a method for gripping them with my head. Tim |

I usually wear a baseball cap. I do the strap up fairly tight, and pull it on. Then when I'm driving fast I pull the peak down for extra down-force. Now here's the tricky part - you can usually feel a big gust coming before lift off, so as it comes I just increase the diameter of my head slightly, making it very difficult for my hat to fly off.
