Front end sag

Post subject:  Front end sag
We all get saggy as we get older ........:( Pops front end seems very saggy.

He has hydro subframes, which I know nothing about.

The rear seems to be sitting it's usual standard height (very high), both sides are even, ie: it doesn't lean to one side, so the hydro must be topped up OK.

So the question is......what causes a hydro front end to sag and sit low?

Maybe the actual bags are shot anton i.e unable to hold the height....?

a few things that might be the cause other than displacer unit,and im no expert...
incorrect preasure in system... and with a faulty valve more preasure could be in the rear than front.. i have vague memories about these valves causing sag/ iimballance...

there are some spacers (genuine parts that increase ride hight) available dont know much about them

Often overlooked are the rear `helper' springs. These are there to drag the back of the car down > displaces fluid forward > raises front. If they are stretched from old age this can cause front sag. I would look at this first before packing struts or replacing bags.

I was gonna say swap the bags from back to the front, but looking at those springs is a good idea - maybe even making up some new ones a bit stronger? I couldn't get my blue S to sit level, even with spacers at the front, so I just dropped it on to the bump stops.... :roll:

You don't want 'em stronger, just a bit shorter.. :wink:
:idea: You can then add washers on the top stud until you're happy!

hmmmm....interesting stuff......i'll sus it all out. Not knowing anything about hydro, I never would have thought about looking at those springs.

Don't think so, this spring is a ride height balance thing really. Hydro's claytons sway bar is a pair of comp rear bumpstops. The car sits on these and they add to the spring rate (if hydro has such a thing) when cornering.
p/no C-AJJ3313. $72 or so from Karcraft etc. :wink:
Don't put 'em on front (different kit) unless you are going rallying- they made mine sit too high. +ve front camber is not good!

Maybe chuck some inch packers with the springs and see what it does to the front..Of course measure the front and rear prior :idea:

No good Gaf- you need 'em shorter so they pull the ass down more, that lifts the front by displacing fluid forward to the front bags.

They are `tension' springs- just like yer clutch return but a bloody sight stiffer! :lol:

I actually like the front ride height...but the ass end is sitting up really high!!...or so it looks, but the rear is probably normal :lol:

Hydros have to ride higher in the rear, or you won't carry any load without its ass dragging.
And the bum squats a bit under acceleration too. 8)

<edit> fill the fuel tanks, you cheapskate! :lol:
