Anyone have any idea what this car looks like or what it's about? It would make interesting reading...

just cos im 19 doesn't mean i cant work.... well not hard anyway

It was a very tidy Mk 2 cooper s, owned by a ex bmc mecahnic,
restored in the early 90's and was maintained very well.
the whole car was pretty tidy and pretty much originall
all matching numbers.

i liked it but as to teh price it sold for, well, maybe not
worth that much but there were a lot of bidders and
a lot of people liked the car. it think it was more $15k ish
car..... it went to a good home which is good but that
is the risk one takes when buying the car at auction. they
will pull a above price sometomes. i don't think the
price was that unreasonable though

Hmm.. 18K seems like a lot...

After getting my K dad wants a Cooper S so he's gonna spend some "loose change" and get one.. rich bastardo.. so we went in and checked it over.

However... Look, interior was really good, the vinyl was excellent and the instrumentation etc was good - also the carpets and general finish of the car like its chrome, headlining, sound proofing was all very good. But... it had a few issues..

The fit of the boot was a real problem - either the boot was a replacement item, or/and the car had had some kind of rear end accident because the top corners of the boot were close to fouling on the body, yet in the middle there was a gap big enough for say, my little finger.

Also, on both front wings some paint deterioration had already occured. Although the paint finish was quite good and the colour consistent, there was some surface cracking and blistering on the top of both wings and on the side of the drivers side wing.

Finally, i would have thought for 18K you'd want originality too. Unfortunately Contessas, momo wheel, engine colour, internal bonnet release didnt quite do it for me.

Still, Im sure it went like the clappers and has been treated well, and would be good for someone who wasnt entirely picky..

Yeha 18K seems a bit rich.....i had a look over the car when we visited on Saturday, but I dont think it was particularly worth what was being asked for it.

As Czerial said, not overly unreasonable but still a tad to much.............certianly too much for me anyway

nar mate
i was serious!

it was interesting coz ive had my interests in that mini
its been on the shannons auction site for months
and with its expected price from $13-15 K i think
i was keen to see what it was really like

i wouldnt have expected all those 'issues' with a cooper s, owned by a BMC mechanic, all original condition

there weren't that many issues with it, all in all it
was a good car, but just sold for a little too much.
in fact it was a good car, not as good as Elmo
will be though.....

Yeah upon closer inspection i would have expected original everything for $18k! the twin KN air filters and contessas kind of detract me... And you can't be serious those bullet mirrors were standard...

For $18k i would have asked for a complete set of S steel wheels thrown in!
