Post subject:  Legal Eagles and Honda Disc Brake CD ROM
A few weeks ago I asked my solicitor for advise in relation to producing a CD ROM with the Honda Disc Brake conversion explained. In a word he said FORGET IT. Apparently it is a legal minefield. He went on to say under the Australian Constitution we cannot sign away our right to sue. Therefore a disclaimer will not work. He also prattled on for a few minutes about other stuff but reccommended I do not produce the CD.

He then shafted me for $287.00 for all his hard work.

Guess the CD is a bust.

I figured his say that.....th courts hate no liability declarations apparently! Thats a damn shame though....im sure people will pick up the info from mates as the conversion gets more popular though!

Same sorta thing with Con's G13B conversion kits ( www.twincamturbo.com ), which is a damn shame. There is a big need for decent 10" rim discs, and Cooper S stuff is too god damn expensive!

Sorry to hear about the b/s legals, but i am happy to say i just got my conversion engineer approved :D and the engineer is happy to do so for future conversions. He was rather impressed with the injinuity.....well done to the team that came up with it..

Hi everyone,
Have been watching this for a while now, great work by all involved.

I was thinking, although the CD is a no go, really all that is really needed is the template for the caliper mounting bracket. Maybe someone can scan theirs for others to copy?
Easy to send found a 1:1 pic that can be printed out.

The rest of the conversion looks pretty straight forward.

What do you think?

absolutely.............

Im currently doing mine at the moment I have different size discs to Dr Mini 50mm overall width instead of the 44mm ones. I will probably need to space the inside out by 6mm and use a 19mm spacer on the outside to get the right track or buy different rotors either way by using your logic and reading what has been written it this forum and miniportal it all makes sence!!! Oh I have asked a few questions as well........

Out of interest what disc are you using? Maybe there might be some other options out there that are even better. I assume you are still using the civic calipers?

Lets hope someone has a bracket out there they can copy.

The discs are of a 1980 honda civic the only difference is with the disc itself being thicker overall. I have to jig it all up but dont see a problem using it, it might actually allow me to position the disc in the optimal position (dead centre of caliper). Who knows just yet, I just have to find the time to get in there and do it. The caliper is the same as Dr Minis.

If you grab discs off an `84-87 Civic, they are the right ones, 44mm total width. :wink:

That's interesting.

I thought the fact that the onus is on the person performing the modification to seek out an Engineers Certificate would effectively mean there's no chance you being found liable for injury/death/damage etc...

But then again there is nothing to stop people from sueing you and often its the legal fees that you have to shell out to be represented in court or to talk the person out of actually taking it to court that would be the clincher --- its not worth your while.

All of the information has been made abundantly clear anyway so I guess its up to the individual to go forth and be their own pioneer.

Next year I might build another set of Hondas for my road/track car. (ie. put my money where my mouth is...) :wink:
If they work as good as I think they will, there may then be a set of S brakes for sale... 8)
