Post subject:  chamber volume?

ok ive done some deshrouding and now i need to work out the volume of each chamber so they can all be balanced. whats the best way? i've heard of perspex being put over the chamber and filling the chamber with metho, then sucking the metho out with a syringe and measuring it that way. any other ideas?

cheers leighton

I used the perspex with a hole trick, sealed with grease to the face. I sprayed crc in the chamber then filled it with water using a syringe, measuring it on the way in, then just tip the water out.

What he said ^^^. I add a bit of metho to the water to reduce surface tension.

There is a better more accurate way to get TOTAL chamber volume, if the head is on. Commonly was applied to motorbikes way back when...
Face car uphill a bit. Remove spark plugs.
Turn motor to TDC on #1 cylinder or whichever (check rotor points to that cylinder).
Using a burette or syringe (I use horsey ones) filled with ATF, fill the chamber to 1/2 way up the plug hole. Note the reading, it is total chamber volume.
To empty the chamber, put some rags on the front slam panel and front of motor, then crank motor for a few seconds with plugs out. There is only around 35cc or so in there..

You could use water, but I would want to start and run the motor pronto afterwards.
