Hi, Is there any adjustment on clutch so that i can bring activate the clutch half way down the pedal travel. At the moment i have to bury my foot in the floor for the clutch to engage. I have checked the slave cylinder and bled it and it seems to push the rod okay, it just seems that the clutch arm needs to go in further. Any help will be appreciated. Rocco |

Get a big screwdriver or something good for levering, put it between the clutch housing and arm and lever the arm out gently. Look at the gap between the arm and the small bolt coming out of the housing, if i remember right the book says 40 thou (1mm) clearance, any more than that and the pedal will be crappy. |

Tombo, put the screwdriver down.... You don't lever the arm out, that will defeat the purpose of what you are doing. You just grab the arm and move it out and measure it according to your specs. If you lever the arm you can get it to measure anything as you are moving the clutch. You just want to overcome the return spring.

To adjust the clutch to make the takeup point higher you need to adjust the 1/4"UNF bolt on the clutch cover outwards toward the clutch arm (anti-clockwise). You can measure the gap as per the manual or just adjust it out and try it and keep adjusting it till it feels right for you (is what I do). The master cylinder displaces a set amount of fluid when you press the pedal so by adjusting the starting point of the clutch arm you also adjust the finishing point when the pedal is fully depressed. If you adjust it too far out you will have the release bearing riding on the pressure plate and will wear prematurely (and the clutch will disengage with very little depression of the pedal). Halfway is about right. If this doesn't get you the desired result you need to look at the adjustment of the stop at the end of the release bearing shaft (the 15/16" nut and locknut in the middle of the clutch cover). If it is adjusted too tightly it can stop the clutch from disengaging properly. Pete |
