Post subject:  Wheel centre caps
The caps in the contessas I have are losing their chrome. Are new ones available and if so from where?

contessa caps are rare as... and they're a different size to normal wheels. I've seen people use the bottom out of styrofoam cups as contessa caps, or pressure pack paint can lids. Keep your caps, get them rechromed

Thanks for the info. I am tossing up whether to go to 12's or not. The chances are I will change to 12's and fit bigger brakes. Towing a trailer is the main concern as I think it will give the 7.5's a hard time.

what sort of trailer? I don't think 7.5" disks really work any better than 8.4"s, actually, you're probably going to break the load limit for the weight of the towing vehicle (dunno what the limit is for a brick) before you go past the limit of the brakes

There is a business here in Queanbeyan who has an assortment of ROH centrecaps - dont know about the price though but will find out for you.

It is a flat top trailer which two people can pick up. It will have a kart on it and that weighs about 85 kgs. I was wondering how the 7.5's will pull it up from freeway speeds in an emergency. The van will be loaded with all the racing gear and two people so I guess it will be fairly heavy as well.

What style are they? I have some early (red) ones, if that's any help. :wink:
I don't use them- I reckon the wheels look more butch without any. :lol:

I reckon it'll be fine, they could stop a race car doing 130MPH down conrod in the 60's, they'll stop a van on the freeway doing 60MPH with a trailer, make sure the back brakes have 5/8" wheel cylinders.... just thinkin' could you make a rack in the back of the van for the go-kart, maybe like a drawer so you could slide it in and out, a shelf above it or below it for the gear? I just reckon it'd look cool to have the van all set up for karting in the back..... maybe when one of my kiddies wants to race a kart (fingers crossed - no, I don't want to live through my kids at all) I'll set my van up like that ;)

We reckon a kart will go into it with a bit of disassembly. Certainly a midget kart for kids woud fit no trouble at all. Put a shelf above the kart for tools etc. You will love karting. It is without exception the most frustrating form of motorsport known to man.

hard as to find, i have the ones that go on the
factory contessas for SS and LS and i am gettng
them rechromed...(picked up some at Kazjims garage sale
that everyone bypassed!!) happy hunting im sure you sould
find some but they will probably need re chroming anyways :roll:
