OK those who read problems with plumbing know I rebuilt a couple of HS2's and didn't think about the vac advance and have two carbies without the vac take off nipple. I've decided to bite the bullet and rebuild another (at least transfer all the good/new bits over to another body) I have two bodies with vac advance nipples but one also has a larger attachment point on the other side and further back near the piston (breather attachment?) Which should I use and what would get hooked up to the larger port?

That big port on the side is for hooking the breather to on later motors that don't use the Smiths PCV valve.
Like this- note I later fitted a tee to go onto both carbs, as the Police pack S's did.

re the dizzy vacuum advance, GR told me it's a waste of time hooking it up on any motor with a decent duration cam (like an RE13 or wilder) as these is insufficient manifold vacuum at part throttle to make it work.
In neutral with a timing light it will `seem' to work when you move the throttle, but under way on the road it does SFA.
I took it off Barney's 1293 (Wade 104 cam, Corolla 1.46:1 rockers)) and noticed no difference at all.

Is that a similar case for a PCV when fitted as well Doc?

A PCV valve is not needed with these later SU carbs that have a vacuum suction port on their side. This port performs the same function, although with a bit less crankcase suction.

Ok, I actually meant to ask if the PCV was a useless item on an RE13 or wilder cammed mini. I get from the last sentence that it is still somewhat useful. Is this correct?

No a PCV works fine with an RE13 or RE282. I wouldn't run a road car without one (or the hose into SU instead). Too smelly... :wink:

My Gt carbies (original) have two breather pipes in the middle with a y piece that connects stright to the crankcase breather.

Yep that's how I did Barney's twin Police HS4s later. Works well.
