I pulled the motor out of our Mini today. The radiator core was blocked over about 60% of the fins with dirt mixed with oil. If this is a normal mini radiator no wonder people have overheating problems.

yeah, oil and dirt can really make a mess over the years..... a properly maintained mini shouldn't overheat, proper maintenance includes keeping things clean

The overheating everyone complains of puzzles me. The cars did not have a reputation (that I can recall) for overheating when they were new so why should it occur now if everything is as it should be.

i overhauled my whole cooling system, and i even have a thermofan, and it still likes to get hot on warm days.
so warm running mini's to me is alright.

although since i've never had to stop because it was too hot.

boiling is when liquid turns to gas
and when that happens, things get explosive
and you start blowing gaskets and thin metal walls

boiling of coolant is about 130 celcius which is about 260 farenheit
and under the pressure of the system, would be more

ive heard on this forum, running temps should be about 70 celcius (180F)

i get worried when the guage goes up to 93C (200F)
and i guess thats when i call it 'overheating'.

realistically, i dont think my worries are something to get excited about
but i do get worried, coz there has been no definate answer as to what temperature is getting 'dangerous' that anyone has said.

Chris, i guess the first thing is to define 'overheating'
and yes we hear little of it in the uk,
but a fair bit (first hand or not) here in aus
