Post subject: | ALT and OIL lights will not turn off when ignition is off. |
I have recently pulled my engine out and got a recon on the gearbox. we put it all back together and it works great, but when the engine is off the Alt and Oil lights on the instrument panel stay on and to turn them off i have too disconnect the battery. I'm pretty sure all the wiring is right because I have gone through it all about ten times. And when the engine is on the lights turn off. If anybody can help it would be appreciated. By the way it's a 74 Clubman 1100. |

You have the dash power being fed from the wrong side on the fuse box, find which one it is and swap it back over the the accessories side. Simple Cheers Aaron |

or.... your alternator has done a diode (or some other part, cant remember what it was called) Mine was doing exactly that same thing. Power is going back through from the alternator when it shouldnt be. I think if you disconnect the brown wire closest to the block it will stop the light from coming on. But you need the alternator fixed (prolly) |

heres my problem, similar to yours 1. turn key on, lights go on 2. rev up, lights turn off (battery is charging) 3. turn key off (and remove), lights turn on (battery is still connected, and will drain) 4. disconnect battery, all lights off, regulator clicks off (theres a contact in the regulator that builds up charge when the revs are high, switching it over to direct charging of battery - this is the click) ive recently put a string from the cabin to this contact when i leave the car, i pull the string, and it disconnects the two things is mine like your problem? i can tell you in more detail as to what i did if you like |
