Post subject:  dynamat V's the world

Hey,

Sooo... Have any of you chaps or chappettes used any brands of sound deadening apart from Dynamat? I am going to do the floor under the drivers seat and firewall of my van and interested in thoughts on other products apart from dynamat and bitumen tiles from bunnings.

it has the bitument tiles at the moment and these will be getting heat gunned off and a layer of sound deadening paint will be laid down. On this I want to put some sound deadening stuff but not sure on the other brands and dynamat is mucho expensivo

Thanks in advance!

David

I've just got generic auto sound deadener on the floor of my van. It's the grey stuff you get from Clark Rubber or Bunnings. nice and cheap, easy to fit and fairly effective. I have never tried dynamat but am quite happy with this stuff.

Hey White keys, Thanks for the info. Will check that out.

I have also been looking at this stuff from Jaycar

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AX3688&keywords=deadener&form=KEYWORD

It looks the goods i reckon and its an alright price.

Will let you all know how I go as I can tell you are all super interested :) :)

Dynamat or go home.

Simple.

My blue clubby is full of dynamat, tap any panel and is sounds like wood, really dead sound. Makes the doors quiet too.

Bunnings have an equivelant product called 'flashtack'. Heaps cheaper and easier to work with cos it comes in 10m long up to 100mm wide rolls. Worked well in the roof of my van.

Hey Poeee,
Why's that?
I am not meaning to have a go if it sounds that way but just wondering. Have you used other products? seems that on a few websites other sound deadeners have scored higher in reviews and tests than dynamat and they are considerably cheaper. Now i am not sure if i can get these here in oz but it seems interesting.

Dynamat eXtreme... simply for the fact it goes on (and stays on) so damn good!

i used the jaycar stuff, the one with the silver backing on the bitumen on my corolla doors and the difference in sound clarity and response was very noticable. it ended up being like $100 for 4 sheets, which did both doors, but you can get a dynamat full car kit for like $260 or something, so ill be going the dynamat on my mini. to be honest though, what they are effectively doing is just adding weight to the panel so that it doesnt resonate or vibrate as much so i would assume they would all work to similar effect.

ok cool. Thanks for explaining Poeee. I knew that you wouldn't just be following the sheep trail.

so something like this looks good

Actually this would probably do for the inside of the van.

Anyone got any sources that offer it cheaper?

Cheers
Davidc

My sources tell me that ebay is the cheapest place for dynamat. Unless you know someone with some left over from their projects.

Check out this informative site: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

I got 4 pieces of Dynamat Xtreme for $100 from a mate who installs sound systems for a job. That was a one-time-only offer though. I haven't put it in my mini yet, so I can't tell you how it goes.

Hey,

I checked that website out this morning. It was weird as it seemed that he didn't actually test anything and went by the stats offered by the company. It was quite early when I looked so can't be sure I was seeing the right thing.

I will give you 101.00 for your dynamat :)

Make sure when you buy a bulk pack you are getting a box with 9 sheets. I was warned when I bought mine that an ebay seller was selling them with 8 sheets, saying 8 sheets (but people didn't realise), as he was taking one sheet from each and making up another 'bulk' pack.
