Anyone know where I can get Zircon White in clear over base for my MkII? Or does anyone have a formula? Cheers! |

Why the heck not? gotta be one of the strangest things ive heard in a while..... ![]() If anything, brands tend to protest mixing with other brands... but its really not a big deal.... Other than that, how could you not clear over a basecoat? The amount of times ive used ppg, and cleared it with other brands or ppg, I have never had a problem ![]() |

My inderstanding is that PPG 2pack paint is a direct gloss system, therefore not needing clear. However to match the rest of the car I want the colour in 2pak+Clear Maybe my smash repairer doesn't know what he is doing? No - I think he is well qualified in doing things properly. To get the Sugarcane base coat we had PPG mix a small tin as they still have the formulae , then sprayed it out and had it Spectro match to have a Clear over base formulae which is know a known quantity. The purpose of this was to hopefully end up with something that is going to last well. Maybe someone here has already done this with Zircon White? Thanks. |

nope your repairer is on the money, solid non metallic colours, in 2pakl dont require a clear coat. it can be put oin for the extra shine, but not neccesary! |

well that is the first time you have mentioned that it is 2pack.... that and basecoat are completely different things. I was talking about basecoat, as that is what you had mentioned. Correct. You do not need to clear over 2pack because it is a gloss paint, but you can, as stated above, but yes its not necessary. Be more clear about what paint you are actually talking about if you want the right answers. |

Maybe someone here has already done this with Zircon White? Thanks. Zircon white isn't a common colour, so I doubt if anyone has done that. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a formula converter. I met a guy at Phillip Island who has a Zircon White MK2 - it looked like it had been repainted, but I don't have his contact details to ask him what sort of paint it was. When I paint my cars, I'll be using Acrylic with no clear over it - I reckon clear coating is a sham, but that's just my personal opinion, which is irrelevant ![]() |

Yeah it would be great to have an Ausmini formulae database for Acrylic & 2 pak. Ill see if I can get the Sugar 2pak formula we had created incase any one might be able to use it. I realise there are many variables in this , but its a start. Cheers. |

From my Dulux paint book: Zircon White 526-12969 Tinter / Setting 19206 / 442 00740 / 463 00742 / 478 05440 / 500 I've only seen Zircon white on one car. Looked pretty neat, but it is a very pale green to the eye. I even asked the owner what shade of green the car was!? ![]() But, don't call it Zircon Green, or you might end up with Ford Zircon Green, which is a dark metallic green from about 1968 (XT Falcon GT colour) For those who collect our Mini calendars, see March in 2007. Colour repro was actually quite good. Cheers, Watto. |
