I know this has been mention before But. I recently had a interview with a Oil Company selling thier products. Unfortunitly they took the guy willing to take less money

i havent, though sitting in the office the other day waiting for my blueslip, they had all that information on the wall also... im going to be doing an oil change in the next couple of days, i think i might have to go out and get a bottle, for the sake of 15 bucks i think it cant do any harm... |

We use that stuff. Smells and looks like diesel  .
It seems to do a good job though, normal hot oil usually comes out nice and black, but if there has been a flush it has brown through it. Especially on Toyotas. |

Their salesmen are selling snake oil, really. The aftermarket repair shops in USA and here are making a fast buck. None of the major car companies eg Honda, Toyota recommend it. There have been major probs with it (engine damage) in US according to MM forum. I'd stay away from it on Minis, it will dislodge crud that can do engine damage. Just do a few short oil changes with any cheapo 20W/50.

I lost my last job as a Service Advisor at Toyota for NOT upselling (Fortron products in my case) this crap. Yes, it does work. Especially on T/D Hilux's that don't get serviced until 30,000k's. BUT if you change the oil regularly, it isn't necessary, is it? As Tombo has said, looks and smeels like diesel. Pour in 300ml of that instead. Save the other $14 IMO. |

with an old motor, it'd wash away the build-up around the rings etc. and make it start to smoke..... all of a sudden its time for a rebuild when I was a kid, dad had a friend who owned a used car yard, basically just selling $3-4000 roughies. He was always rebuilding motors because his mechanic would put oil in that flushed all the crud out and turned them into smokers

A Hyundai came into work on a truck, its engine had failed due to a service. Massive neglect had caused a huge build up of carbon crap on top of the head, someone drained the oil then putting in new oil washed the carbon into the sump, this blocked the pickup, starved of oil, big end sieze, con rod snap, smashed piston, hole in block. No flush could have saved it. |

It is the same as snake oil but it does not come from snakes. So is it Synthetic snake oil or Snake free oil? |

I did that once because the Penrite 40/70 was so thick we couldn't get gears. It cleaned things out OK, after a couple of days use we dumped it. |

I was at a mini shop in vic when I was looking for my current mini. He had a car that was being sold and he parked it out the front of the shop for the guy. He said that the motor was only new but needed a full rebuild. this sounded weird so asked why. The owner had had the motor built by a backyard bloke in the area and he had told him to fill the engine with half oil and half petrol to run it in nice and fast. The guy drove around like this for a while until it shat itself. I think the engine builder was trying to get away from him. Sounds like a time bomb to me, I don't mean timebomb to break down but time bomb to KAHHBOOM. |

I've been told that diesel oil in a petrol motor will do the same job due to all the detergents in it , you just have to run it for 1000 k's or so then change oil and filter as the filter will be full of crud . I am not advocating or advising doing this but have been told it does the same as expensive engine oil treatments that claim to do the same thing ... |

Many Mini people in USA are now using diesel oils (eg Shell Rotella) because it's getting hard to buy oils that still have zinc phosphate? in. It's been removed from most modern oils for environmental reasons, without it, older engines with flat tappets (eg A series) suffer cam and lifter wear. |
