hello all, just wandering when i start my car up to go for a drive its sits at about 50 psi but after a while of driving like if i go for an hours drive or something the pressure goes down until the needle sits on 0. i continue to drive my car and it hasnt seized the block so i figure i must have oil pressure? im not sure. it has plenty of oil in motor as well. what do you guys think?

See if you can borrow another oil pressure guage and try it to confirm whether the problem is the oil pressure or the guage .

check to see if the Oil is dirty or still clean but yes I would also check the Oil Pressure Gauge aslo.
Does the motor run hot

One of my engines i rebuilt had a stuck oil pressure releif valve. No good for pressure. If you take out the releif valve and put an inner cv ball in under the spring it will raise the pressure.

Remove the oil releif valve - big domed nut front left (drivers side) inside wille a spring and a bullet shaped cone - may need a 10mm dyna bolt to screw into it to pull it out.

get a 9/16" steel ball to replace the cone. cut 4mm off the spring put 40mm of 5/16" rod down the centre of the spring and put it all back and screw on the cap

Whats the purpose of the rod?
I never put anything there when i did mine and its all good.
Is it just to keep the spring straight?

From memory it's to stop the spring or ball compressing too far and getting snagged on something . It's possible but not highly likely , more of an insurance thing .

Thats it - the Doc says there is a the potental for the spring to jamb off centre so the rod keeps it centered and stops jambing

you know something wierd... since I did that to my motor, my oil pressure at idle is higher than my oil pressure under load.

it idles at 75psi, and is at about 60psi the rest of the time - 100k's on the freeway, putting around at 60 4th, fanging away from the lights...
