Post subject:  wipers

just wondering is the first part that connects up to the wiper motor on the early minis (62) shorter than a later mini with the two speed wiper motor

Not sure about this, but I had a 66-67 Mini with the late 2 speed motor on the original early rack assembly.
The wipers went 180° on the screen, as the rack boxes are different no of teeth. :x
It's not that easy.........

I have converted original square motors to 2 speed, all you need to do is add a 21 or 27 ohm wire wound resistor in series with the field wiring. This gives about a 2x speed increase. Put a switch across it, to get original speed.
There was a thread on here last year, do a search.

i only mean the assembly, i have the mini with the wipers that are close together and i brought an assembly but i think the first part of it is way to long it would go past the motor instead of sitting in it

The mounting holes for the later motor are in a different place. I would just bolt the motor on, mark the panel and redrill the holes.

To do this job properly though and get the right 105° wiper travel, you really need a complete later wiper assembly, use the 2 wheelboxes off it and the first tube piece too if you want.
Use your centre tube as the wiper spacing is different.

Sorry I've never measured an early one, but the late one is about 200mm from thr top flanged end to the back of the hex nut, measured on the inside of the bend.
