Bought a full car set of HiLo's a couple of months ago for the van, fitted the fronts a month or so ago and decided to get stuck into the rears this afternoon. Got one fitted pretty easily, then picked up the other one and found this: ![]() That's the cone end (i.e. not the ball joint end) of the alloy strut. The steel pin has been pressed in off-axis and it's cracked the alloy ![]() Needless to say I'll be on the phone to the supplier on Monday, but I'm a little concerned about fitting these at all now, I don't much like the idea of them failing under load on the car ![]() |

Dosn't look good, are you sure they are alloy, all the ones I have seen are steel I wouldn't think alloy that thick would be strong enough. |

The strut is definitely aluminium or an alloy thereof. The pin in the end is steel. |

yukko! that's pretty thick alloy to be cracking like that - I'm sure out of the 1000's of sets they make, there would be very few like that the way the set I have work is that the rears just use the rod from a hydro car - they're alloy too |
