Post subject:  Not happy, brand new hilo's

Bought a full car set of HiLo's a couple of months ago for the van, fitted the fronts a month or so ago and decided to get stuck into the rears this afternoon.

Got one fitted pretty easily, then picked up the other one and found this:

That's the cone end (i.e. not the ball joint end) of the alloy strut. The steel pin has been pressed in off-axis and it's cracked the alloy  Anyone else had this problem with brand new hilo's?

Needless to say I'll be on the phone to the supplier on Monday, but I'm a little concerned about fitting these at all now, I don't much like the idea of them failing under load on the car

Dosn't look good, are you sure they are alloy, all the ones I have seen are steel
I wouldn't think alloy that thick would be strong enough.

The strut is definitely aluminium or an alloy thereof. The pin in the end is steel.

yukko! that's pretty thick alloy to be cracking like that - I'm sure out of the 1000's of sets they make, there would be very few like that

the way the set I have work is that the rears just use the rod from a hydro car - they're alloy too
