Hey all
Since ive had my deluxe ive had a rattle coming from my remote change gear lever. Holding the lever down fixes the problem.

Does anyone know what this is and how i can stop it?

i was at northern minis ages ago and told the owner about this same anoying problem...
he said they have a little gaget that sits somewere under the ball and cup or something that stops this anoying rattle....im not sure what the part looks like but i know it availble.
i got rid of mine when i fitted a new stick with a quick shift...but after 6 onths it came back due to wear and tear....
if im at northern minis in the near future ill ask again.

You can disassemble the remote gear change lever and replace the nylon cup that sits at the bottom of the stick. Regrease everything while you are there and it should fix the problem. The nylon cups were unavailable for a while but are back in stock it would seem.

With mine rebuilt (cleaned, bead blasted, inspected and reassembled) I still get some light buzzing at certain small parts of the rev range. I think I might create a fibre gasket to sit between the spring and the seat to try and eliminate the noise completely.

Also, an american fellow popped up on here in 2006 and suggested that a Morris Minor top hat seal inserted onto the end of the gear lever would help.

I picked one up and worked out what he meant from the vague description and god help me it did! It worked a treat actually. It compressed as the unit was put back together and suppressed all noise. I might even do it again....

Would the rubber seal that is on the side of the remote gearlever housing make a difference?
I had this problem and just took the lever out, greased it and put it back together and it was fine. Then started vibrating again. Took it apart and regreased it, and noticed the rubebr cover had gone. Would this be part of the problem?

The large rubber seal is there for access.

Taking it apart and greasing it is only a temporary solution. The grease is slowly pushed out of the way by the rattles, and as it is stricky will not return into the gap. So the rattle starts again.

The nylon cup is only a few bucks from the usual mini suspects and will make a large difference as it stops the play which stops the rattle.

Just thought itd be acover for something. Not like a mini for something to have an easy access hole lol

if it just the rattle replace or put the Nylon cup on the end of the ball of the gear stick as per above. Thier is a spring that does go in under it but I have not been able to find one so I just pack if full of grease. Next time I'll give the spring and flat washer ago.

If its more than a Rattle you have mounting troubles which I only recently fixed on our daily drive

If the nylon cup is a loose fit in the shift linkage, wrap a bit of teflon tape around it to make it a firm fit.
