gday all...

havent been on here for some time....been busy with my 7 month old son.
ive been continplating on the idear of making an easter egg shaped like an old style mini.
tried making one from a matchbox pop off mini but turned out not so good.
then i thourght what about a rc mini shell???

well i tried this idear at work and the results were fantastic...
ive so far made one easter egg...witch is about 2 cm thick al round....
and i also made a ice cream cake using the same princapal but instead of just
normal chocolate i used iced majic....

step buy step instructions are as follows.

for easter egg.

melt chocolate....i used coles cheapy brand ...x 5 blocks
melt one block at a time

first block is used to cover the front windscreen ....the roof and the rear window.
you kinda have to rock the shell to cover as much area as possible.
then set in fridge.
repeat same method and do sides...i sat the shell on a plate as it gets messy.
the when it comes to the grill and rear of the car you kinda have to sit the shell on a tilt so the chocolate will stay in that area.

for the chocolate version i used iced majic.....follow same method for easter egg and set...once set i poured 5 1/2 ltr of chocolate ice cream into shell and let set for 3 hours....once set i turned it out on flat tray...please not it may stick a little so tap lightly......
the iced majic seems to grab more than the standard chocolate.

both items ive made and have turned out excelent...
my boy will be getting a chocy egg version for easter for sure .

my shell cost me $30 from my local hobby shop....but if you not into minis.....you could do it to any rc shell thta your into....i was lucky as my shell wasnt original timiah rc....but a replicia...and even better it diddnt have the holes in the bonet or roof but if you get one that does you will just have to cover them up with tape...

hope this kinda makes sense....if i do another one witch il do soon i might do a step by step with photos for all the non cooks out there.....thats if ur interested???

Looks good, now all you have to do is make some wheels from icing sugar with a liquirice strap around them!

Could you bypass the fridge stage between choccie blocks by having the car shell
in a bucket of ice or something? So the choccie hardens as soon at it touches the shell?
:D

cant see why not???
i did both...easter egg and ice cream cake at work so we have an industral fridge...that is -22 all the time so it hardended very quickly.....but even putting the shell in the freezer or in ise b4 you all the chocolate will make it go hard faster....
give it a try.....my next experiant will to be ...a chocolate mug cake...i intend to buy some cheapy coles cakes.....remove the icing....break the cake up and push it into the mould...to make a new cake.....might have to add some orange juice to make the cake softer and so it will stick back together ....this is the same method i use to make the little xmas pudings..but i use xmas cake for this idear....
it would make a great money box too....just use plaster instead of chocy...and put aplaster base on it afterwords????and add a coin slot....kinda like these i got for xmas

Image

the green and red one are both money boxs....

ohhh yes regarding orders???
no im not as it would cost you too much ....the ice cream alone cost me 35.......ill be making a sold one for easter for my son ...that is costing me 45 just in chocy. 5 kg worth....the shell holds around 4 1/2 ltr of mix ..and thats threw work too...but it will be easier to make a solid one ....might just have to suply a hammer and chizzle so we can break bits off....hahahaha

That is so cool.

will add the shell can be brourght seperletly...just go to local hobby shop...no need to buy whole car package....as most of these are around 300 or so....

witch is a bit pricey....maybe search for the after market one like a said above.

minifreak, how come you are filling up the centre? Why not just put a 2mm thick coating around the outside and have it hollow?

the first one i did was hollow....its just its harder to do it this way as if the chocy isent thick enough it will crack as mine did....i just added more layers ontop of each other to stop this....making it solid would mean less lkely to crack....the one in the photo is hollow and around 2 cm thick.....the roof is thicker as most of the time the shell was laid flat so all the chocolate went in this area.

pouring the chocolate on the outside wont work....as it will just run off....i poured it on the inside ....easyier this way....and once set i put car on its side and did one side at a time....and to do front and rear parts i just tilted it ..but you may find another way thats better....so let me know....im just a little cook.....who has way to much time on his hands ....hahahaha

I wonder if there are any 1/24 scale slot car bodies around? They would be a much more marketable size for chocolate minis.

There are a few lexan 1:35 scale ones availible , I've got some that I used to use as jelly moulds  , they aren't exactly what you'd call to scale or detailed but they are recognisable as a mini . WOuld be others availible though too I'm sure .
