Bluey is dead. :( Driving to brissy this morning, and yea doing about 90km and she went BANG!!!!!!!!!!!! Engine died totally, and yea, fiddled around for ages on the side of the road with no tools, except my hands, which didn't help but couldn't get her started long enough to get 5 meters down the road. Its under my shed now, and Im going down after lunch, to investigate further, and pull things apart. She has done well to last this long, going to and for from Brissy, so I expected it to happen sometime. Its been just over 10yrs since the last rebuild of the motor, so she has done well, with the regular maintenance I give her. :P

Big Bang?? Look for holes in the side first.... Mine threw a rod due to a suspect Oil Relief valve (never confirmed) whilst on the freeway. Put a nice hole in the side.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, hope you get it going as soon as possible.

Dicko.

yea it sure was a Bang! Ive experienced a few big bangs, when i was young, and driving around with my father, in the truck, and cars, when the engines have died, at one stage one of the conrods blew a hole in the block, which was interesting to say the least. Tho its the biggest bang ive heard coming from an engine before. :( :( which worries me

You said you couldn't get it started for long, which I take as a positive sign. If it won't turn over at all it's usually bad. The fact it made such a loud BANG makes it seem like a crank or conrod, which is still bad.

Dr. Peter Venkman: I'm a little fuzzy on the whole "good/bad" thing here. What do you mean, "bad"?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

"A number of years" sounds a long way up the scale from a number one or even a number two.

Firstly I'm glad your back up and running, Kirsten, great to here.

I thought that was what a your mechanic's job was, to ensure the car is running to its full potential and correctly? Key to stopping that happen again, is regular maintenance and service. I drop the sump on mine, fuel filter change, oil filter change, dissy tune up, timing, radiator fluid, and other things every 2 -3 weeks. Though I do use the car alot, going to and from Brisbane, for uni 4 days a week, plus travelling all around the Goldie Coast, from day to day. But it pays off, I have never had a break down yet! Something for you to consider i guess.
