I was talking to my local mini guy and he says 12x6 rims are really rare, and will require modification to the bodywork, or raising the suspension.

Can anyone confirm/deny this.

He also offers a 12x5 package with 8.4 discs for $1800, is this a good deal? Not sure if it includes installation or not though...

Thanks!

Yes he is right re 12x6 rims. I have heard that body mods are required. I'm guessing not to the extent of 13x6s. Might rub on suspension components too, I've heard of this happening with 12x5s (although I believe a wheel alignment fixed it, but anyway).

As for the wheel/brakes package, it depends on the condition! Are the wheels new, second hand, tyres? Got to be wary of second hand alloys as they could be cracked. The brakes might need a rebuild that can be expensive.

Anto.

yeh 12x6 deffinately need body mods , THE SAME as 13x6 rims , as the 13x6 tires are a lower profile than the 12x6 tire

I have never know 12/6 to be rare but as for body mods, it all depends on the offset of the rims, pcd and backspace. 91mm is the optimal backspace both for clearance and geometry.
Also depends on what drums are used, or discs, as for the price, as above with new-2hand, tyres, condition of discs etc.

Ben, 13s might have a lower profile than 12s, but are 1" bigger to start with..
<edit> and the lower profile is based on a larger section width tyre.

It's only the width difference between 12x5 and 12x6 you need to accomodate. You still run 165-60x12 tyres.
I doubt they would need much cutting at all. 8)
