In the early to mid 80's I bought a MKII Cooper S from a garage sale in Payne Rd at the Gap here in Brisbane.
Price was $750 dollars.
Eventually wrote that one off on the way to work one day

Dave

Geez, that's cheap, we paid $1000 then for our Mk1. My boss owns it now.

I paid $1800 in 1982 for my unmolested 68 cooper s, still got it but unfortunatley it's now molested

In 1992 I bought the sports850 for $1,000 from the third owner , it was advertised in the trading post as "one for the collector" ... He was right

I paid $350.00 for a 70 Mk2 S in 1977. It was a 1 owner car, unmolested, with handbook, all 5 original rims. The motor was in need of a rebuild and the clutch had gone. He wanted $400.00. Told him it wasn't worth that and offered him the $350. When he accepted I gave him everything I had in the wallet as deposit.

It was sold new in Dalby, Qld, and had been driven to Darwin and back. I sold it in 1990 and bought the Black Mk 1. Regretted selling it ever since, it's still around town and the guy will not sell it. I try to buy it back every time I see it.

Fast forward to 1993, 63 Cooper 997 shadow blue and nurburg white in lots of crated bits. Eight hundred dollars from Mansfield in Brisbane.

I thought it was a little overpriced at the time but was happy at how complete it was...

I paid $650 about 10? years ago for a 1964 850 fitted with a good 1293A+ Moke motor, Mini K remote box, S disc brakes and twin tanks.
Sold the rolling shell (I replaced the front floors) for $750 + the RH tank for $200, and put the rest into Barney.

In 1992 I also bought a 997 cooper in pieces for $400 , the body was perfect , had been fully restored and was dead straight but in primer (is now Zak's yellow speedster) , somewhere around $2,000 of new parts (with all the reciepts in boxes still , had to keep hiding receipts from previous owner when we were loading boxes as he was starting to do a mental calc on them) and old hard to find trim (still got 4 bits of the 6 stainless seam trims from it plus cooper hubcaps ) plus spare motors , brakes and assorted gear ... I'm still using bits from that one .

David , I'll beat Leighton's offer of $150 for the 850 , I'll swap you the cooper seam trim for it :D
