Do you mean the harmonic Balancer? If so two screwdriver, one on each side and wiggle, no not you the screwdrivers.... (it's late and i am tired) it's a snug fit as there is an oil seal on it. Cheers Aaron |

Cheers Aaron No. This motor has a belt drive for the camshaft and I can't get the wheels off the cam or crank without risk of damaging them. |

arnt they just on a keyway in which case you could just use a bearing puller ![]() |

I have never seen timing gears which needed a puller. I am also not sure if the intermediate plate behind the gear comes off with the gears. No ordinary gear puller I have seen would get behind the cam wheel from the looks of it as there is not enough space. |

You use a bearing puller, carefully so you don't bruise the edges of the teeth. If this happens you need to polish any bruises out before refitting the belt. I polished the bore of the bottom gear so it's an easy slip on fit to the crank. They are made too tight I reckon.. ![]() <edit> my puller is a `Crab' 2 leg puller. Nothing special. ![]() |

On 1098 motors, and all the Cooper & S's, it's not just a `pulley'. These `harmonic balancers' have a heavy steel ring bonded (vulcanised) to the inner pulley part with rubber. As the crankshaft vibrates torsionally under load (they all do), this decoupled mass damps these vibrations and reduces the likelihood of crank breakage.. Whenever you have one off, look at the state of the rubber in between. If cracked or bits missing, chuck it away and get another. It is possible to get the S ones rebonded for $100+, but with the 1100 style ones it's not worth it when you can buy a newie for ~$75 or so. ![]() |
