hey guys
i found a set of what look to be 10x7 steel wheels, and decided to clean them up and maybe use them.
will they fit as is, or will i need to make body modifications?
also...where the hell do i get tires for them

the wheels:

They will fit without body mods as long as they have the right dish etc.

As for tires, if they are 10x7 you will struggle to find them/will not find them. I have 10x6 and run 165/70R/10 and they are a stretch, and I do not know of any wider wheels.

As far as I know the only wider tires will not be road legal. Only golf buggy tires will fit. Your best bet will be to talk to a local tire merchant, they will be able to advise you.

i have heard of the golf buggy tires, but i thought they were illegal and/or dangerous.
it's no biggie if i can't use these wheels, i found them on the side of the road

the few pairs of 10x7's selling on ebay recently had 205/55r10 i think from memory, gluck trying to find them though.

Those wheels look like they have been banded, I think that's illegal now for road use.
Back when I used to make em (in the 60s) all tyres had tubes in, so the odd weld pinhole didn't matter.

Best thing you can do with them is give them a coat of paint and hang them in the garage as a talking point , or put them in the for sale section for someone else to do the same (and you get some drinking money ) .

You know what I reckon, get a pair of 3.5" wide tyres onto the one rim!
Bit of super glue and gaffer tape and she'll be right.

there are some 205/ 50 10's available that are road legal they are still gold buggy tyres, but are tested to 120kph off the top of my head.... ... One that comes to mind is the Good Year double eagle.there is more, not sure how good they are or how long they will last road dedicated.... PS. i run 10x7" with 165 tyres

The original rim has been cut into 2 halves and a band welded in between.

Not all 10x7 rims are banded. Spun halves were available in the late 60s early 70s from companies like Bernie Pfitzner Race Engineering. I still have a set of chromed 10x7 Cooper S steel rims on my black Mk2 S. I also ran 10x7 Mawers for some years on my Mk1 S which had a steel rim.

Speaking of golf buggy tyres I was offer today form a well known tyre and mag dealer a set of 4 nice lookin 10 x 7 rims and 4 different tread patterns to suit a Mini hub and I was told that they had sold quite a few sets to people with mini's but he was unsure about the cornering loads when i asked him if they would be suitable for my race car.
