Post subject:  I have to decide what to do with the Midas
Having health problems is a pain in the .............but when it effects your eyesight to the extent that you cant drive anymore and you have to wait around on the hospital tp book you in for surgery............well it all means that I have not been able to drrive the Midas for the last 5 months, or any car for that matter.

So with no promise from the quacks it probably makes sense to sell of my baby, what do you people think, I really dont want to but it is a waste to leave it in the shed

it will be hard to sell, but it will be a terrible waste for it to just sit in the shed. wait for the outcome from the docs if it looks as if you will never drive again probably best to look for a good home for it.

Sorry to hear that Feral, and I'm sure giving up the Midas won't be easy for you. Regardless of what you decide to do, I hope your health improves soon mate.

Sorry to hear that Jon , but the thing you really have to ask yourself is what would be worse for you ,

Having it sit in your garagee for 5 months not getting driven only to find the results aren't all you hoped for and you still can't drive it and have to sell it anyway .

OR

Selling it now and in 5 months time being fit and able to drive again and regretting selling it .

Parking it up for 5, 6 ,7 ,12 months won't hurt it . So you won't get the full use of the rego you've already paid for , big deal , at least you won't regret selling something you didn't have to ....

Bugga feral,,, doesn`t sound god mate,,, dam eyes.... my mum was nearly blind her whole life (well after 30-ish) had some rare disease & they had to remove the eye & the optic nerve,,, & the damage was allready transfered to the other eye so that one was stuffed to but they caught it before it was a total loss,,, at least they were able to keep that one,,, all be it with only 5% vision,,,, apparently only 3 people recorded having that disease.

keep it till you know exactly what`s goin on,,, even if it`s a few years mate,,, then if it`s no good & you still can`t drive after that, then sell it to me

chin up bro... advances in medicine these days are amazing mate,,, don`t count your chickens till after they`ve hatched

sorry to here about your eye problems.
Ive got a eye problem too but at the moment it dosnt stop me from driving.
Ive got only 10% vision in my left eye and about 90% in my right..
I just have to be extra carefull when driving and turn my head more when checking etc.
can be hard in peek hour so i get my wife to check sometimes.

I was woried like hell when i went for my licience but all was ok for me.
ive had my problem since i was born...caused by the doctors using to much oxigen when i was put in the humidicrib...when i was born...and it killed of the lense or something.
I can have surgery later on if i want...just remove the lense and replce it with a new one..
they can do amazzing things with eyes now.
but i was told to leave it alone untill i realy need to do something.
I would hold on to your pride and joy..and wait for the final result...

My dad is going through very similar problems, having cornea transplants at the moment (one done already and on the mend, another still to be done).

He hasn't been able to drive for almost a year now, and it's actually affected him pretty badly.

He's been told his eyesight will be better than it was before so he is keeping his collection of cars... even if his eyesight wasn't to improve, the cars would stay and probably remain in the family anyway.

I wouldn't sell. Just hold on till you get the final verdict.

My old man gave up driving voluntarily because his eyesight got so bad.
He even passed the Countryman I gave him down to my son.
Then he had surgery to remove the cataracts and he can see better than when he started wearing glasses 30 years ago!

So just be sure before you sell it.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts it does help keep the spirits up, it is the retina's in my eyes that are dieing and there really is no cure, as they die off they try and grow new blood vesels to replace and repair but they are to weak and bleed causiing lots of spots before the eyes, anyhow as they say no point complaining about what you don;t have better get on and make do with what you do.

As for the Midas it might be a great chance for someone else to have the only one in Australia and yes it is a real Cooper S :lol: just check the numbers :lol: :lol: :lol:

You'll be right mate. If your not sure then I would hold on to it until you are. Plenty of people (including me) that would be happy to drive it to events for you (good to see it at wheels). Either way, as long as you keep entertaining us all at the meetings etc... I'll be happy :D

That is another option there Jon that should be considered .

My mini's have been in long term storage often enough though not for the same reason , just re-read what I wrote earlier about what would you regret the most , selling it now and being able to drive again later , or keeping it for now and then selling it anyway in 6 months to a year .

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Keep it. Keep it for as long as you can until you really can't drive anymore then you can think about what to do. 5 months is NOTHING for a mini. 5 years I bet a new tank of fuel, oil change and she will kick over again no problems!
