I need a set of 850 pistons as no one will rebuild my donk without some. Can anyone out there sell me some or know where to get them?

AFAIK they are NLA now, and have been for years.
I'd bore it to fit 998 pistons and deck the block to suit. With std pistons this is a .067" overbore.
Use 998/1098 conrods to avoid notching the gudgeon pins.
998 pistons are much stronger than the old split skirt 850 ones.

Try Auto pro. They can supply full range up to .060"O/S. I just bought some for a bloke. Hypertec with hastings rings for around $210

Are you sure these are 850? I've never seen 850 Hypatecs advertised.
My spies tell me some 998 ones are getting the chop soon.... so buy pistons while you can.

I get all my pistons and rings from Auto pro here in Gawler. Darren gets them in from a supplier and they are always hypertec unless I want better quality ones. I have another set of .040" O/S 850 ones to pick up for the engine in the 60 car that I am restoring.
For the stock engines I usually get the hastings cast rings, but for the t/c engs I get the chrome rings.
With the small bore engs Darren can supply either 3 or 4 ring hypertec pistons.
I have know idea who he gets them from, I just order and he supplies

I have heard that these pistons are or were made (somewhere in the continent of telemarketers and camel enjoyers) for Hypertech not by Hypertech and are of inferior quality and tend to fracture. I have also been told to do a very similar thing to what drmini has said.....either use 998 pistons in an 850 block or jsut use a 998 block and adjust to suit an 850 :wink:

Graham Russell sells the best, oversized flat top ones in +.080" and +.100".

BTW I have heard ACL are dropping or have dropped their 998 ones too.
I hope these stories are not correct but it's the way things seem to be going...

I use AE brand pistons from England, dished or flat. (carcraft sell them) Very good quality and fine for "race" engines. Our Nb car uses 21253 +030 pistons and they take 8000rpm all day. Repco/ACL used to make 850 pistons years ago and if you search hard enough you can still find them. I have a 2 sets of BMC split skirt 850 pistons too, ill use them in a original 850 resto one day. A 997 cooper engine we built for a targa car a few years ago we used pistons out of a Honda bike engine. These days if i needed to build an 850 engine i would use 998 pistons.
