Post subject: | Headlining again |
Hello all, Well, I've done a little more searching since my last post looking for a headlining source. Newton Commercial in the UK has a part listing that specifies Australian Cooper MKI, here: http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/mini/p ... =31&type=7 From a previous post, I had learned that the visors in Oz coopers were the cream crackle pattern, and the lining (mk1) was the grey lizard skin. I asked Newton Commercial to send me samples of both colors listed on the page above (grey and cream crackle), which they did. Received these yesterday. Here is a photo of the two, taken against a white sheet of computer paper: ![]() The cream crackle clearly seems to be the wrong color, compared to the visors. The longhorn is very similar in pattern to the original, except the little lines that are pressed into the vinyl are protruding instead of recessing, if that makes sense. (The lines are bumps that stick out, instead of being dents that go towards the roof). The color is very light and grey compared to my old headlining, which is more yellowed and so forth, but I imagine it was once closer to grey also. Any comments here, i.e. does this look about right for a mk1 (color and pattern), or at least the best substitute I can find at the moment? Another place/source I could find a lining that's even closer to the original? Thanks and talk soon. Hope all are well. bmc P.S. Enjoying my uebercool ausmini.com shirts--all the Seattle guys are totally jealous! Thanks Jess! |

I dont know about textures or colours as i dont have one. But if it is the wrong colour you can get it colour dyed. It merges with the vynil and does not come off. you could dye it by the meter so that way the 'whole' of it will be cloured even the seams when sewed, wont be detectable i would think |

doesn't look like it's the right stuff BMC, right colour, but wrong pattern. We need to find someone in Australia who has built a concours MK1 S and see what they did about their roof lining. I know with my car, the bloke I bought it off had made up a good lining out of two torn ones, stitching them together at one of the seams. I reckon it might be worth getting people to collect ratty ones for you, eventually you'll get enough good pieces to make one up TUCK3r wrote: i have a original material out of a clubby that i got from mini king and im pretty sure mick used the same in his cooper s build. if you would like a photo pm me your email address
clubbies used honeycomb sort of pattern, not the same as MK1 - bmc has already seen a photo of the pattern |

I've got two complete single piece interior hoodlings hoodlinings hiding away in my garage, they use the material on the right although they are an off white, not cream like in the photo. |
