Post subject:  Alloy Door Hinges
was just wondering if anyone has used the alloy door hinges that mini sport sell? are they any good and has anyone had problems with them? or should i repin my old ones?

I can't see any point in them. The steel ones perform well when repinned, and the weight saving on an alloy door hinge is next to nothing when measured againast the rest of the car.

Yes, they save messing around re-pinning the old ones, but I found the threads hard to get the supplied stainless studs into, especially one on the car.

I cleaned the thread on the ends of the studs up with a hobby file & also ran a tap through the hinge. Really would expect them to finish those bits off better for the price.

Morris, don't kid yourself the hinges are burstproof, they are NOT.
My son had a head-on prang in his first Clubby, the whole damn door came off and finished up on the road.
The CAST IRON (no, they are not steel) hinges both broke... :lol:

I never said that they were burstproof.
But the stock hinges have been tested to meet the ADR.
Have the aftermarket hinges been tested to meet the ADR?

Doubt it, but they seem to be of a decent quality.
I'd trust them at least as much as the cast iron ones that are still fitted to the passenger door.

Historic RacingS and I had a similiar conversation at Bathurst...I agree with Morris, I would say the Cast Iron are potentially stronger than the Ally...(all thingsbeing equal)

Hey Doc, when are you going to program the CNC machine to carve some out of steel :?: :shock: :D
