Some lowlife stole my jacket on Saturday and with it my only keys to the mini. I know, I know I should have got a spare cut when I had the chance. :(

I just got quoted $240 to have someone come out and cut a new key for the ignition. I also need the clublock removed, but I can get into the car because I have a spare for the door.

Does anyone know if there's a better way?

If it's a round nose with the central ignition switch, the whole ignition switch can be picked up for about 10 percent of the quote.

Despite the picture, it comes with barrel and two keys fitted.

Buy another second hand ignition switch and replace the one you have if you can already get in the car. Then take the switch to a reputable lock smith and get him to try and cut you a key for it.....And a spare one while he is at it. ! Surely will not cost you $240.

best time to learn how to break in to your mini mate!

a better solution, though, is to try a bunch of other mini keys, chances are you'll at least find a door key that will work.

yours is a 76 (or thereabouts) leyland right?

It's a 1978 clubman with steering lock, so I think I need a whole steering column?

PM gzeVan and ask him really really really nicely to come and help you out... Trust me i don't think there would be too many people more qualified to sort the problem for you.

Cheers
Aaron
PS gzeVan if you read this, i'll have to get a barrel and key to you soon. Scrapper2's is a little ill.

Okay I PM'ed him and I'll see if he can help.

If not I'm going to hacksaw through the clublock (or try). Then I'll remove the column and push it up the driveway (Sitting in a 2P spot at the moment). Once it's there then I'll see if it's cheaper to get a new column or a key cut.

You can pull the lock off the column. You just need to undo the bolts with a centre punch. (or you can cut a slot in the bolt and use a screwdriver)

Can you get into the car?

Yup I can get into the car. I just threw the towel in because I'm not feeling so good and it's out on the street with poor lighting. BUT gzevan just called me and says he can swap barrels and remove the clublock for a reasonable price so I'm happy! Just waiting for him to come...

I Love Ausmini :)

I was going to give you advise on how to open the doors and remove the clublock without keys.
(I would only do this by PM as I don't want the world to know how easy it is  )
I am glad that gzeVan has saved me from sharing my dodgy secrets.
