Post subject:  Suspension set-up in Melbourne?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows a place in Melbourne for setting up mini suspension?
Similar situation as this thread...

Thanks,

Daniel

Not sure where you are in Melbourne but you could try Safety Motors in Geelong.
They have a good local reputation and I will be taking my Mini there soon.
Another Mini owner in Lara has just had his car done.
Quote was about $60.

So they will do all my camber, toe, alignment etc?
Do they have the ability to rectify the 'crabbing' that alot of people talk of?
Front to rear positioning I believe?

Any alignment place can only adjust your suspension as far as your setup will allow - that is, if you don't have adjustable lower arms at the front then they can't adjust the camber. Likewise caster bars, or rear setup if you don't have adjustable brackets (although a limited amount of adjustment is possible at the rear by slotting your fixed brackets and/or subframe).

I have adjustable everything on my car and so Stuckeys were able to set it up exactly to my spec. Many alignment places cannot, because their equipment can't take 10" wheels, or they're generally incompetent. My point about Stuckey is that they knew what they were doing, and got it done quickly and accurately with no fuss.

Stuckey's have been in business for ages. I bought my Mini rally tyres and other performance tyres (Dunlop SP Super Sport for a Lotus Escort) from them back in the 60's and 70's. They were (maybe still are) regular attendees at motorsport events, especially championship rallying. They were the Dunlop Motorsport dealers for the Melbourne area back then.

In summary, a lot of experience. :D

Edit: Just checked their website to see if what I said above still applies, and it does. The principal, Russell Stuckey served me way back then, although he has a few grey hairs now.

P.S. Have a look at their technical information under the News & Information tab.

I see they have street legal race tyres for 10" wheels:

Not so awesome in my book.
Just took a day off work, trailered the mini all the way there, to be told they cant do 10's any more because they got a new machine.
Not one mention over the phone when booking.
Not pleased.

Len Read is the man you need to talk to. He sets up race cars but also does Road Minis.

He knows his stuff.
