Hi,
Was wondering what sort of activity would cause a rubber universal joint to disintegrate?
I took the driveshaft apart after hearing a seriously loud knocking noise. And the coupling had come apart, to the point where one metal casing type thing in the joint had smashed to pieces, and was being held on by a few strips of rubber.
Just looking for advice how to stop this happening in the future. I do drive the car pretty hard, the brakes tend to cop a bit of a hiding.
Thanks for your help,
Joe

happens all the time, they just wear out - they can be damaged by over-tightening them, but basically they're not up to the job if the car is driven hard.

David Rosenthal makes an alloy version that replaces the rubber ones, check in for sale or PM him
