generators are good unless they don't work

read the section of the workshop manual on how to test & adjust the generator & regulator

buy a multimeter, everyone needs a multimeter

and buy a battery charger, charge the battery up, then see if the car discharges it again

Used to happen to me all the time with my mg, i used to whack it with a hammer, not too hard, then check it with a multimeter. Otherwise it might be the regulator, mini's might not have them i'm not sure? they're bout 60 buck to purchase and install from an auto elec, though i had mates rates on mine so might be a bit more.

there is a little LED tool you can get from repco and places like that. But I must stress that it is an indicator to battery and alternator condition only.
It has 6 LED'S on it. The bottom three are for the battery (bad, fair and good), when put on your alternator....with engine running....all 6 LED's show its condition. Again, it is only an indicator, but for $10, it is a quick fix for me to point in the right direction! :D

Turn the lights on and rev the engine, if the generator is working the lights should get brighter. Also is the red light on in the dash? i should be on at slow idle and go out when you rev the engine, if theres no light on when you turn the ign on then there wont be any charging going on.

$20 bucks your battery is rooted, if it won't hold its charge. How old is it?
All it needs is one cell to fail.
