I replaced all the studs in mine, I bought 1/4 UNF bolts from Supercrap and cut the heads off, to length. Then Loctited them into the hinges.

If you can get in there, MIG tack weld the nut to the stud, then screw the lot out. :wink:

Be very careful with boot hinge studs when you do those. They are only screwed a few turns into the ALLOY hinges, and strip real easy. :evil:

No room for a helicoil, so I made new bullheaded studs up- 5/16UNC coarse thread into the alloy, 1/4 UNF the rest.

It's the stud that is turning and obviously stripped - Think I'll have to get in there with a dremel and try and split the nut.

the stud is stripped in the hinge with the nut still on it, so the nut and the stud is turning as you try to undo it? Correct

got room to grab the nut with some vice grips and just pull the stud straight out, or pull the hinge off it from the outside? Tried multigrips - will give it a go with vice grips - got to be careful - don't won't to damage the Duco :roll:

it won't take much to lunch the rest of the thread Not to fussed about that -will be replacing the stud anyway

The front nut on the top hinge, body side is stripped or something - turns but won't undo - not sure if the whole thing maybe turning - tight as working in there, tried leavering the hinge away from the body while turning but no good. Any other ideas?

or the thread inside the hinge are all the other bolts off. Maybe swing the door out al little and rest it on a milk crate and it may be just enought pressure on the nut or thread for it to catch and come out just like those pesky ball joints

The new range of helicoil kits have different lenth inserts, the shortest one is about 5 turns, I recoiled mine no problems with 1/4 unf I like the tacking of the nut to the stud idea.

David take an angle grinder with 2mm cutting disk and cut the hinge off through the middle of the bolt. I've got plenty of spare hinges so you are welcome to half of the hinge you need. Do as the doc says and locktite some new studs in.
