Post subject: | Buying a mini. |
Hi. I went and looked at a mini yesterday, in the spirit of buying it. I think I will buy it, but I want to know what you guys think it is worth. It is a 1978 Clubby LS, Originally green but now painted red (Some signs of the green starting to some through in the interior. Mainly in the front map pockets), Doesn't have original motor, now fitted with a 998 moke motor (motor done 44,000km, car done 76,000km), just had a major service, drives well, brakes well, no rust, a little ding near the rear tail light (passengers side) but is hardly noticable. Comes with original LS rims or contessa's (wants more for it with contessa's). Interior is alright, a couple of rips in the headling (10 cent piece size), rear seat will need re-upolstering eventually, pioneer rear speaker 6x9. What are your thoughts. Cheers Xave |

The Contessa's are standard fitment on a 998 LS. Make sure it still doesn't have the Moke diff in it (4.2ish compared to a 3.4 which is standard in a 998 Clubman). |

Hi Poeee. I found out that they aren't contessa's. They are rover mini wheels (same style as contessa's). What would it matter if it still had the moke diff, compared to the standard? Cheers Xave |

Moke's had 13" wheels with a more conventional size tyre (much much taller than a Mini with 10" or 12" wheels). The diff in the Moke is a ratio to suit the taller wheels. In a Mini, sitting on 100km/h, your engine will be screaming its lungs out! |

Alright. Thanks for that. What kind of price do you think it's worth though? Xave |

Is it registered and has/will pass whatever safety checks you need in NSW? From that description, i'd say it would be worth up to 5k, maybe 6k. Very hard to say without seeing it, let alone just in pics. |

Its not registered, but does have a RWC. The only thing that will be the killer is insurance, beacasue I'm 17. It's like $1000 for insurance (inc. greenslip) Cheers Xave |

1000 for insurance including greenslip is actually pretty good for a 17yr old. As for the car, its hard to give a price. Even harder without pictures. What work needs to be done to it? Does it have rust? Does it have good tyres? Ryan |

Tyres are good No rust Nothing needs to be done to it to get it on the road. Will try to put pics up either tonoight or tomorrow. I can't really be bothered to put them on photobucket, but I will. Cheers Xave |
