Post subject:  Strange Mini Conversation

I had the most oddball conversation with this guy at the local greasies today. He couldn't have been more than 20yo.

It started off typically enough, "Nice Mini you have there." Followed by, "I used to have an ol' Mini."

And from there it went skewiff.

Apparently, his car was Mr Bean green with a black bonnet. Factory original colours, you know. And it was a convertible with a leather interior. Apparently the replacement of cost of such an interior is around $14,000.

I asked if it was a clubby or a roundy. "It was a Clubsport mate" he says.

The conversation was doing my head in. I couldn't grab my fish & chips quick enough. I got out of there.

I once had a bloke ask if I had any genuine door trims for a XU1 four door.

I decided not to shop at that Repco store any more.

A mate of mine had this guy turn up to buy his old 850. He kept trying to slam it into 1st on the move, my mate had to explain that it was a 3 synchro box and it wasn't meant to go into 1st while moving. This bloke responded "No it isn't, I designed the gearbox in these cars". Oh yeah, 'course you did.

By contrast I met an old guy at a servo recently when I was filling up the Moke. He told me a long, but very funny, story about when he worked for the local agent here in Hobart selling Mokes, a gem of a bloke.

My favourite which i've had a few times is when i get approached and asked if my 1000S is a Cooper S.

They then go on to say "I once had a Cooper S"....

Uuuh? Didn't they ever look at the front? :?

the amount of times ive had "i used to own one of them".

And everyone has to put their two cents in. Especially old people, just yesterday i had an old guy about 60 try to tell me to set my points at 14thou. He was right, but it was evident he didnt know ANYTHING else.

You cant go anywhere without someone offering to buy the car, or give you advice on how to make it better.
