Post subject:  door conversion

Hi all, once again.
I know that it has probably been posted lots before, so here it is again.
My "Lil Grunt" is an 850 with sliding windows, how hard is it to convert to windup windows. I would love to keep it sliding, but am having heaps of trouble finding door skins, or even a mould for fibreglassing. I know minisport have skins, but they are a little too rich at the moment for me. If I have to, I will save my pennies, but for now, am exploring all options.

Try to find a coach-builder or even a really really good panel beater, they should be able to make you a new door skin.
Other wise converting to mini K or Deluxe doors is your other option, they will bolt straight on

Nobody has answered you so I will have a go at it for you.

Changing a door to wind ups really depends on the type of striker you have. There were a couple of different types of B- pillars used on the round nosed minis. They had a different shape near the striker plates.

Just the other week there a posting on this and one of the answers had photos showing the differences - run a search for it. Bolting another door up to the hinges is easy peasy stull but it has to completely catch and stay shut.

Stay away from clubman and later roundnose doors though. Thats the ones with burst proof doors and lift up handles. The B-pillar is very different.

Having said that - door skins are fairly readily available from MiniKing, car kraft etc and they shouldn't be that expensive. A good sheet metal fabrication place should be able to cut and roll one to shape given a template to work from. It shouldn't be that expensive.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to lose sliding windows either. They were unique to to the 850 here in Australia and now there are not many around.

Try some of the larger local mini suppliers first, save risking damage in shipping and cost of freight as well.

tried the same parts through minisport in SA, but found that I was going to pay just under double for the same stuff. Mini and moke world never get back to me with prices. I will keep trying local guys, maybe someone will come through.
