Take off the rocker cover. Under there in all the crud is a number cast (not stamped) into the head.

For a Mini, could be-
12A1456
12G202
12G206
12G295
12G940
12G1316
CAM4180
12A185
AEG163

Let us know what you discover! 8)

They are 1098 heads- used on Morris 1100/Mini K/997 Cooper/1098 Clubbie. Inlet ports are square.
Not as good as a 295 head, but can be modified (with much work) to flow just as good or better.

Much better than the old 12A1456 (850 & 998) heads that had smaller inlet valves and ports.

Thanks

i have a 998 motor in my clubbie, so would it be worth cleaning one of the 12G202 heads up and installing, what performance improvements would i gain and if none how could i modify ? :?

If you clean it up and machine 1.5mm off it (as chambers are bigger than your old 998 head ones) it's worth around 4HP. I stuck one on my 998 `matic and it made quite a difference. 8)

<edit> For further increase, fit 998 Cooper inlet valves, recut the seats and port it to suit. Follow Vizard's book.
Of course then it needs a cam, bigger carbs, exhaust, yada yada...

What do you reckon it would cost to get 1.5mm milled off ?
