G'Day Gafmo,
You will need to pull the needle out from your carby and get the code number stamped on it. I have the SU needle book with all the profiles and code numbers, but I have found that these days, not that many of them are available. Alternative would be to machine your own or modify an existing one.

Are you sure it's an EDP needle? It's not on the list in winSU

Funny you sould say that Scott...I also tried WinSU152 first proir to asking starting this thread.. it came up with does not reconise Needle :? Arrrr its a Pommy site and it was tuned by a local..Keven Klyning in Syd...So maybe an Ozzy modify..I don't know so I just asked the question..But I did try it out very ruffly on winSu, 1098 no mention of +20/40/60 REcam so I just tried a 285 cam and it cam up with BDP or try BBZ, BDK.
I have also ask this question in another forum  Very Very Sorry  but some one came up with thier is no such needle  it may be worn and could be a BDR..Ill have to recheck tomorrow morning.
I just cant see how it can wear in thier :?:
I'll recheck and refer
Cheers Guys

Any ideas? It's been 35 years since I ran twin HS4s... :?

Step 1...consult Vizard??...to get you in the ballpark

Step 2....dyno to optimise..

Step 3....road test to confirm dyno outcome???

Yeah Vizard sez RED springs, with #3 or #4 needles... :?
I think step 3 comes before step 2, Mick.. unless you work for lotsa $$$, which I don't..

OTOH the dyno guy might have a tin full of needles to try, and only charge me for the last pair..

 Maybe I should build a fuel/air ratio meter, then who needs a dyno for needle selection.

I'm just intimidated by the cost of needles, x2, and the selection of 800? to choose from. :?
And people wonder why I prefer tuning Dellortos etc..

Yeah SU's are bastards of things.
Once you get the right needle, then set them up just right, you have to do it again in a month coz its gone out of adjustments!
SU carbs and Mini drum brakes - the two worst things the English have come out with

G'Day,
Don't know what you guy's are going on about SU carby's... I had my twin SU's properly re-built and GR set up the needles while running in the engine on his dyno, have not touched them in 5 years except to top up the oil, and clean the filters. With working chokes, mine start first kick summer or winter...
