Hey guys, i was looking at lightening my mini a bit, i was wondering if fiberglass bonnets and boot lids were legal on the road, and if it were legal to take the backseats and seat belts out? if anyone has had any experience with this some info would be great , thanks jarred

I am no expert on this, but my opinion (that is all it is) is that there should be no problem with fibergass bonnet and boot as they are not structual.

As for removing the rear seat and belts, it is a legal requirement to change the rego to being a two seater and I believe in order to do this you need an engineers certificate.

I wouldn't be surprised if a fibreglass bonnet would be in fact heavier. If it was a lightweight item, it would rattle like a pig. ADR's of the car are what you need t look at. Roundy's are different to Clubby's and year on year they change, So it would really be a case of looking at your year and confirming.

Have a look at removing all the sound proofing tar from the inner guards & floor area's, you'd be amazed how much weight is in the tar sealer.

thanks, does anyone have a weight comparison of fiberglass bonnet/ boot lid ?

Not off hand but is anyone able to put a bonnet or bootlid on their bathroom scales , I'd imagine they would only be 3 or 4 kg's each and even if fiberglass was only half the weight you're still only saving 4 kgs or so , better off finding a smaller battery and taking your spare tyre out when you want to play (and accepting that if you get a flat you'll have to call someone) . It might be a bit different if the panels were as big as a Falcon bonnet and bootlid .
