Post subject:  URGENT!!! - Devonport Tas

Tassy tour has ground to a halt, we have an 1100S with a blown head gasket and an 850 with no clutch

We're stuck in LaTrobe just out of Devonport, can most likely get the cars into a garage in Devonport but are stuck for parts/tools (and a bit of know how)

We've rung James Wilson who's in Hobart and Al, we think we may have found some parts for the clutch on the 850 (off a moke) gone to canabilise them now.

Is there anyone on Devonport can assist?

please call me on 0417 578 998 as my mobile laptop is going to run out of battery

cehers

Kevan

Thankyou Al for coming to the rescue. Was a big relieve for me (850 owner) to have someone there who actually knows what they are looking at. I really appreciate all you've done for us, and next time we're over or your over in vic, I owe you ALOT of beer. Everyone in Tassy has been so helpful, its greatly appreicated.
Josh :D
(incidently 850 got driven to devonport minus a clutch, crunching gears is now my forte, and will be back in vic all going well... now just to decide whether to fix the 850 gearbox, swap the 1100 engine/box in or just dump the matic set up i have in the shed in.. all sounds better than burning it like I wanted to do on the side of the road   )

back on line!!!

many thanks to all who assisted, especially Al who came to welcome us to the Island and then helped out heaps last night.

James and Gary Wilson made heaps of phone calls and hooked us up with an experienced mini man (John) about 20 minutes from where the 1100S broke down. By the time Lloyd and I got out there with the headgasket (from Al's shed) the 1100S was rolling off the tow truck and into John's garage. Once there he ushered us out and told us to go eat and come back in a couple of hours. Never one to argue where there's food and vodka involved we complied and returned just as he kicked the beast into life - the man in a magician!

Still not sure what the problem is with the 850, Josh is now an expert in clutchless motoring and the guys have talked to the boat; they'll tow it on and off, there'll be a trailor waiting in melbourne for it - it just seems easiest to get it home and worry about it then.

Many thanks also to Ben who offered us the use of his trailor, garage and hoist - what a star - you Tasmanians ROCK!!!!

anyways, off to the chocolate factory for breakfast........

see ya on the north side!

If you need someone to check the 850 out when you get off the boat give me a call.
Glad the 1100s is running well again, pity i couldn't do more for you guys over the phone, when home i still reccommend you get the head taken off and checked out as there maybe an underlying problem that made the head gasket go.

Cheers Scott

thanks Scott, the guy who did the head gasket said the head was pitted near where it blew so I'm guessing it will be off again shortly
