Yeah I've seen GR do them like that. For race motors.
But- really if you want one that light and are gonna rev it hard, a steel one is safer. Remember where your nuts are! :shock:

Can do. Stock flywheels are grey cast iron, not real strong stuff. Made less strong when people bash them off with a BFH and other improvised methods.
All it takes is a crack... and they do make a mess of everything if they go bang! at high rpm. :cry: In a Mini, this includes you due to its location.
Many race cars wear steel scatter shields around the flywheel for this reason.

:idea: Lets all convert our Minis to LHD! :lol:

Just thinking about the rotational velocity on the outside of the flywheel @ 8000rpm.

Guess diameter to be ~40cm, therefore circumference 1.256m

8000rpm x 1.256m per rev = 10048 m per min = 602km/hr

Yep a chunk of cast iron with that much kinetic engergy wouldn't tickle in your lap :D

Race ones are made from steel, or alloy with steel inserts.
